Hire a Saluki/Handshake
The best way to build your brand on campus and recruit SIU students and recent alumni is to make them available to apply through our school Handshake Account. Handshake is a nation-wide platform designed to connect our students with jobs that fit THEIR qualifications.
Getting Started:
Sign up with "Employers & Career Centers" not Student/Alumni
Creating an Account:
Create an account, fill out company information and add logo under the "Company Profile". (This is what the Students will be seeing when they view your job postings), and then you can start connecting with students.
SIU Third Party Policy:
At the Career Development Center, we reserve the right to accept or decline any employer designated as a third-party recruiter on Handshake. To ensure compliance with our standards and practices, any third-party employer whose status is marked as "Pending" must complete the Third Party Policy form. This form helps us verify the legitimacy and appropriateness of the opportunities being offered to our students and alumni. Your cooperation in completing this form promptly will facilitate a smoother approval process and enable us to maintain a high-quality, secure platform for career development.
Please email form back to Nicole Wood, Employer Relations Coordinator at nicole.wood@siu.edu.

The Extern Program
The Career Development Center is always seeking new SIU Alumni and friends of the University to provide externship opportunities for current students. Externships are defined as short-term job shadow experiences that can last anywhere from a single day to a couple of weeks. They allow students to apply classroom knowledge to real experiences, engage with professionals, expand their network, and benefit from having a mentor in their chosen field.
Our formal Extern Program takes place during spring break. Informally, we connect students with willing Extern Program sponsors year-round.
Becoming An Extern Sponsor
Becoming an Extern Program sponsor is one of the best ways to build your brand on the SIU Carbondale campus, while also having the privilege to host one (or several!) of our students. For more than 30 years, SIU has provided the Extern Program as a unique professional development experience for our students. To date, more than 4,000 Salukis have worked with companies and organizations around the nation to gain first-hand experience in their chosen career fields/professions.

Registered Student Organizations
Connecting with students via Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) is another great way to build your brand on campus. SIU is home to more than 400 RSOs, including more than 170 clubs with an academic or industry focus. Check our RSO list to learn more about these specialized student groups and how to contact their leadership.
